Hey guys! I’m here a little later than I was hoping, but I’ve just finished my first book of the readathon and I’m finally ready to draw out a new one. Before I do that, though, I wanted to talk just a little bit about what my feelings were on The Way I Used to Be.
I’m not certain of a star rating yet; I literally finished it only a few minutes before I started writing this post, and I’m still riding the high of having finished a book, but I think I’m leaning toward around a 3.
This book follows a teenage girl who is raped by her best friend’s brother during her freshman year of high school, and how she deals with that through the rest of her high school career. It’s sometimes very graphic and very disturbing, and I think it is a very important read. I feel bad saying that I didn’t love it, because it deals with a very important topic, and one that is especially relevant in the world today.
That being said, though, I just thought it was okay. I found myself skimming over words, and even during exciting parts, I skipped a lot to get to the parts that were the most interesting. Plus, a lot of it made me uncomfortable, but then again that was kind of the point.
Anyway, that’s all I’m going to say about it right now. Maybe I’ll review it later; we’ll see. For now, though, let’s just get to the drawing.
The next book I will be reading is….
Because You Love to Hate Me edited by Ameriie
That’s all I have for this post, guys! I’ll hopefully see you soon with another update!
Thanks for reading!
