Merry Christmas, everyone! It’s Ariel, and today I’m doing a book tag! It’s a festive one, which is appropriate because hopefully this will go up on Christmas. It’s the Bookish Naughty or Nice Tag, which was originally created by Jenn from the blog Jenniely. I was tagged by Nox from Nox Reads.
The rules are:
- Link back to the person who tagged you
- Link back to the creator of the tag (Jenn!)
- Mark the things on the list that you’ve done
- Tag at least 10 people.
1.Received an ARC and not reviewed it.
Yeah… I’ve done that. I’ve only ever received one ARC, and I haven’t reviewed it (or read it) yet. I do plan on getting around to it eventually. Hopefully…
2. Have less than a 60% feedback rating on Netgalley.
I’ve heard a lot about Netgalley over on book Twitter, but I don’t actually have an account, so this question doesn’t apply to me.
3. Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did).
This is kind of a tricky one, but I’m going to say I haven’t done this, because while I do use Goodreads constantly, I have never promised to review any book on there and not followed through with it.
4. Folded down the page of a book.
I’ve done this, but I don’t really feel bad about it. I know this might be scandalous to some people reading this, but to me, a few folds and creases in a book isn’t a big deal.
With that being said, though, I wouldn’t ever do that to a friend’s book or a library book. Also, I probably wouldn’t ever write in a book, even if it was mine (unless it was required for school- I’ve had to do that a couple times).
5. Accidentally spilled on a book.
Oops, I’ve done that, more than once. Even worse, I’ve done it to a library book. If you’d like to hear that story, I’ve actually talked about it in a post before (here’s the link, if you want to check it out: 5 Books and the Weird Reasons I Own Them https://wavesofpages.com/2018/09/11/5-books-and-the-weird-reasons-i-own-them/)
6. DNF a book this year.
This kind of depends on what you consider DNF, but I’m going to say that this is a yes, because I have definitely started some books this year and not finished them. I do plan on eventually finishing all of those books someday, I just haven’t gotten around to them yet.
7. Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it.
Something you should probably know about me is that I’m kind of a cheapskate when it comes to buying things for myself (I’m willing to spend a bunch of money on other people, but when it comes to myself, not so much). I tend to only buy books if I have already read and loved them or if they’re by an author I trust. With most other books, I prefer to get them through the library or through some kind of bargain book place like BookOutlet. There are, however, books that I have bought with less forethought, but even so, when I buy a book, I always intend to someday read it. Whether or not that actually happens is a different story.
8. Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else.
For me it’s normally the opposite- I do something else when I should be reading. But there have been a few magical moments in my life where I was so into a book that I couldn’t put it down even though I needed to do homework or something. Of course, then it makes me have to rush through whatever task I had to do, but it’s worth it.
9. Skim read a book.
I’ve totally done this, both for books that I was kind of bored by, but still wanted to finish, and, weirdly, for books I really liked.
I know that second part probably doesn’t make sense, but I’ve noticed that sometimes when I’m reading a particularly exciting scene in a book, I’ll kind of gloss over some words or phrases (or entire paragraphs, sometimes) and skip ahead to the most exciting parts. It’s kind of a bad habit, and I don’t know why I do it, but I do. Even if it’s a book I love, I do it.
10. Completely missed your Goodreads goal.
2018 is actually the first year I’ve ever had a Goodreads account, and the first year I’ve ever set a reading goal for myself on Goodreads. I ended up reading 44 books, when my original reading goal was 30, so I not only passed my Goodreads goal, I kind of rocked it. I had no idea what to expect when I set the goal, so I aimed low.
11. Borrowed a book and not returned it.
I guess I have sort of done this, but the thing is, I actually haven’t yet read the book I borrowed, and I do intend to return it once I do that. Still, I haven’t done it yet, so this counts, unfortunately.
12. Broke a book buying ban.
This really doesn’t apply to me because… well, I just haven’t ever put myself on a book buying ban, so I can’t have broken one.
13. Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about.
I have written reviews long after reading the book I was reviewing, which is bad because it made it hard to remember specific complaints or praises, but I’ve never started one and not finished it, which is what I think this question is implying?
14. Wrote in a book.
Like I said for question 4, I’ve been required to take notes in books for classes before.
15. Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads.
I haven’t yet added any of the books I had to read for my classes this past semester. I don’t like counting those books toward my Goodreads goal, so I always add them later, without recording the dates I read them.
16. Borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend.
Refer to question 11. The book I haven’t read yet is a friend’s book.
17. Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book.
The thing is that people don’t really ever ask to borrow my books, so I’ve never had to dodge anyone who did. The only times anyone has ever borrowed a book from me was when someone close to me mentioned they wanted to read a book and I offered to let them borrow mine- and that has only happened like twice.
18. Broke the spine of someone else’s book.
I rarely borrow books from other people, and when I do, I’m super careful because… well, the books aren’t mine.
19. Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up making it more damaged.
I don’t generally take the dust jacket off of books unless they’re really annoying or I just really love what the book looks like underneath.
20. Sat on a book.
I mean, I don’t have any specific memory of doing this, but I’m pretty sure I have at one point or another.

Okay! Time for the final points tally!
I have done 11 out of the 20 things on this list. So… I guess that makes me just slightly over half naughty and the rest nice? I don’t really know how I’m supposed to interpret this.
Who Am I Tagging?
I know the rules said to tag 10 people, but I’m just going to throw this out to anyone who feels like doing this tag: Consider yourself tagged.
I’m sorry I’m so bad about actually tagging people when I do these things.
Anyway, that’s all I had for this post! Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you later!
