The Greek Gods Book Tag

Hey everyone! I’m here with a new tag! This time it’s all about the Greek gods. Thanks so much to Literary Leisha for tagging me, and to Zuky over at BookBum, who is the original creator of this tag.

I’m not tagging anyone specific, but if you want to do this tag, consider this your invitation! There are just a couple of rules:

1.Pingback to Zuky here so she can read all your posts!

2.You can use the graphics Zuky provides, but you don’t have to.

3.Tag as many people as you want, but spread the love!

Okay, enough wasting time. Let’s get into the questions!

ZEUS: King of the Gods – My Favorite Book

Ah! This is a hard one, but the first book that came to my mind was The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, so that’s what I’m going with.

HERA: Queen of the Gods – A Badass Female Character

Annabeth Chase from the Percy Jackson series and Heroes of Olympus

JANUS: God of Beginnings – My Favorite Debut(s)

Legend by Marie Lu, Elantris by Brandon Sanderson, and What’s Left of Me by Kat Zhang, to name a few.

ATHENA: Goddess of Wisdom – My Favorite Nonfiction Book

You guys know I don’t read much nonfiction—or really, any nonfiction, unless it’s for school and I have to. So on that note, I present to you Persepolis, and autobiographical set of graphic novels by Marjane Satrapi. I don’t think I’ve read all of the installments, because I read part one in English for one class and part three in French for another, but none of the others. From what I read of it, I liked it, though.

APHRODITE: Goddess of Love – A Book I Adore and Recommend Everyone Read

In the interest of not becoming too repetitive (or obvious), I’m not going to talk about Brandon Sanderson here. Instead, I choose Little Do We Know by Tamara Ireland Stone. It’s just… it’s so good. Read it. Please.

HADES: God of the Underworld – An Evil Book I Wish Didn’t Exist

1984 by George Orwell. I don’t even remember why I hated this book so much, but I did, and I do, and just, ugh.

POSEIDON: God of the Sea & Earthquakes – A Beautiful & Groundbreaking Book

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (and, really, Gemina and Obsidio too)—these books changed the way I think about stories and storytelling. Their format is so unique, and yet they still manage to tell a story with great, relatable characters and a strong plot. I love them so much.

APOLLO: God of the Arts – A Beautiful Book Cover

I have to pick just one? There are so many.

I really like the covers for the Snow Like Ashes trilogy by Sara Raasch, so let’s go with those ones.

HYPNOS: God of Sleep – A Book So Boring I Almost Fell Asleep

The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman. This is another book I had to read for a class, and (shh, don’t tell my teacher), it was so dull that I actually never even finished it. I’m usually really good about forcing myself to read for school, even if I hate what I’m reading, but with this one, I just couldn’t do it.

Which is pretty sad, because it’s a nonfiction book dealing with themes like clashing cultures, immigration, discrimination, and illness, so I’m sure if it wasn’t for the fact that the writing was just so boring, I would have been interested.

HERMES: Messenger of the Gods – A Book I Sped Through

The one that sticks out in my memory the most is Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson (book two in the Stormlight Archive), because of the sheer impossibility of what I did. That book is over 1,000 pages long, and the first time I read it, I plowed through it in two days, maybe three. I still have no idea how I did that, and I haven’t ever been able to replicate it.

Okay! That’s all I have for you all today! Keeping with the theme of myths, let me know down in the comments what’s something you always thought was true, but it turns out it totally isn’t. Or just tell me if you’ve read any of these books, and what you thought of them.

Anyway, thanks for reading. See you soon.

-Ariel
