November 2018 TBR

Hey guys! Long time no see, right? I’m back with another thrilling episode of “Ariel Picks Out What She Wants to Read This Month.” Are you excited? I know I am.

Let’s get into the books.

Shadows of Self and The Bands of Mourning by Brandon Sanderson

I’m lumping these two together because they’re both part of the same series.  I started reading Shadows of Self last month but didn’t finish it before the end of the month, so I figure I should go ahead and finish that book, and then jump straight into the sequel.

These books are the second and third book in Brandon Sanderson’s Wax and Wayne series, which, like I mentioned in yesterday’s post, is a continuation of the Mistborn world in a more modern setting. I don’t know if the Wax and Wayne series is the official name for it, but I’ve seen a lot of people call it that online, and it sounds catchy, so that’s what I’m going with.

Originally, I thought this series was just a trilogy, but apparently there is a fourth book coming out at some point in the future, so I want to get caught up on the series.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

This month, I am participating in a Harry Potter readalong, but I read the first book only a few months ago, so although this month is supposed to be the first two books, I am probably just going to read the second one because the first one is still pretty fresh in my mind.

I am excited to finally continue in this series and see how I feel about it.

I seriously doubt you guys need me to tell you what Harry Potter is about because, well, it’s Harry Potter. Everybody seems to have read it (except me).

Seafire by Natalie C. Parker

On last month’s TBR, I said I either wanted to read Two Dark Reigns or this book, and I ended up reading Two Dark Reigns, so now it’s this book’s turn. All I really know about it is that there are lady pirates and it’s fantasy. That’s all I needed to know.

That’s four books. Under normal circumstances, I would probably say that I should stop here, but last month I read (a lot of) 6 books, so I’m going to challenge myself a little. I have a couple more books that I would like to get to this month.

The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson

I read this book a long time ago, and I don’t remember liking it very much, but I recently joined a new audiobook subscription service and the entire series was on there, so I figured, why not? I don’t remember much about why I didn’t like it, but from what I do remember about it, it sounds like something that I would like, so maybe when I reread it, I’ll discover that I love it now. Who knows?

This book is a fantasy where our main character, a princess, is engaged to be married. The thing is, she’s never even met this guy, and she doesn’t want to marry a guy she’s never met. So she runs away and assimilates herself into a small town, pretending to be a peasant. What she doesn’t realize is that two men are chasing after her—one, an assassin who was sent to kill her, the other, the prince she was meant to marry. We read from her point of view, and also from the points of view of the two guys chasing her—but we don’t know which is the assassin and which is the prince.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson

A couple of months ago, I read Walk on Earth a Stranger by this author, and I gave it 4 stars—I intend to continue with that series eventually. This book, however, is a very different series. Walk on Earth a Stranger was a historical fantasy novel about the gold rush era in the United States, where our main character has the magical ability to sense gold in the ground.

This series is, from what I understand, a fantasy series set in a world different from ours. The main character is a princess and something of a religious symbol because she was born with a jewel in her stomach. I don’t know much else about it, honestly, but it sounds cool. This is another book that I am planning to listen to on audiobook.

Wildcard by Marie Lu

And we come to the last book for this post. I’m already at 7 books, which is definitely a stretch for me, so I think this is a good place to stop.

You guys know that I love Marie Lu. Last year, I read the first book in this duology, I loved it, and now I want to read the second book. I don’t have a physical copy of it, but I do have an audiobook, so like the last two I talked about, I am planning on reading this book using an audiobook.

This duology is a sort of sci-fi/dystopian series, where there is this Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality game that everyone in the world is obsessed with. Our main character is a hacker who accidentally glitches herself into a very important tournament in this game, and is seen by millions of people. That leads to her being called by the creator of the game, which sends her on a trip to Japan.

I loved the first book, and I’ve heard some people say that this book wasn’t as good as the first one, which is a little disappointing, but I’m still super excited to read this book and see how I feel about it.

Okay, that’s all that I have for this post today! Let me know down in the comments what you’re planning on reading this month. Also, if you’ve read any of the books I’m planning on reading, feel free to let me know what you thought of them (no spoilers, please, though!).

Thanks for reading! I’ll see you next time.
